Allergic Contact Dermatitis

Allergic Contact Dermatitis

Inflammation of the skin associated with a rash that can be itchy, red, and swollen. Because it's an allergy, your immune system is involved and after you touch something, it mistakenly thinks your body is under attack and it springs into action, making antibodies to fight the invader. A dermatitis caused by an allergic reaction is usually confined to the area where the skin came in contact with the trigger and does not tend to spread beyond that point. Allergic Contact Dermatitis can be difficult to diagnose and can take several weeks to a month to clear up.
